Eagles News: A.J. Brown trade implications day is here

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

It’s June 1 — What does that mean for potential A.J. Brown trade? – NBCSPThe calendar has flipped from May to June and June 1 is an important date in the A.J. Brown saga. It basically means a trade could happen soon. The reason June 1 is an important date is because any trade after that date is much more palatable for the Eagles’ salary cap situation. Basically, the dead money on the Eagles’ salary cap will be split between this season and next if Brown is traded. Before June 1, all of that dead money from bonuses would accelerate onto the 2026 cap. After today at 4 p.m., the Eagles will actually save $7 million in cap space this season. If he’s traded after this date, Brown will account for around $16 million in dead space this year and $27 million next year. While teams can release a player with a “post-June 1” designation, no such designation exists for trades. So teams have to actually wait until June to make a deal happen. It’s worth noting that any post-June 1 trade for Brown cannot become official with paperwork until June 2. And part of any trade is the player passing a physical.

NFL general manager reportedly hearing Eagles will get first-round pick in A.J. Brown trade – BGNThe long-awaited A.J. Brown trade is nearly upon us and it’ll be interesting to FINALLY find out what the Philadelphia Eagles are getting in return for him from the New England Patriots. (Or some other team … but almost definitely the Pats.) There’s been an expectation that the Eagles will be receiving a 2028 first-round pick with New England reluctant to part with their top selection in the much-anticipated 2027 NFL Draft. That sentiment apparently matches up with what an actual NFL general manager is hearing the Eagles will get back for Brown.

A.J. Brown trade from Eagles to Patriots is nearing completion. Here’s what we know. – Pats PulpitFrom the outside looking in, it looks like two things are true in regards to the A.J. Brown trade from the Eagles to the Patriots: it will happen and it will include a first-round pick in some form (either in 2028 or through likely-to-be-met conditions). The cost is fairly steep for a player with plenty of wear and tear on his tires. However, the Patriots have to be hopeful that Brown is rejuvenated by a reunion with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, and that he will help place the eventual pick fairly late in whichever round is decided upon. In addition, Brown himself also seems to be willing to play his part to help a trade get done; don’t be surprised if his contract gets renegotiated quickly after he is officially sent to the Patriots. And make no mistake, based on everything we know it’s a matter of “when” not “if” that trade happens.

Some reluctance remains among Patriots on top pick compensation for Eagles’ AJ Brown – Exhibit News NetworkNEW THIS AM: (Real-Time Update) I was told early this morning that a discussion on 2028 compensation–in general–will come into fold early today, including debate on IF or CAN there be agreement on picks from any other round in this year, per league sources. Again I’m just sharing ongoing talk I’m hearing as sides push towards a completed official exchange. FOLLOW UP: One league source told me there was a feeling –early this morning– that it was going to take something from 2028 before the sides reconvened independently. Anyways, we’ll see what surfaces after morning huddling.

As trade looms, A.J. Brown is absent from Twitter – PFTIt’s trading day (potentially) for Eagles receiver A.J. Brown. Coincidentally, or not, Brown has shut down his Twitter page. His account (@1kalwaysopen_) currently doesn’t exist. We don’t know when it was specifically deleted, but it currently is gone.

Eagles rookie NFL player comparisons: TE Eli Stowers – PhillyVoiceThe downside is that Stowers is probably more of a big receiver at this point. He will have to become a better blocker to become a more well-rounded tight end in the NFL. The player Stowers reminds me of is former Titans, Rams, Packers, Raiders, Saints, and Chargers tight end Jared Cook. Cook had a long, 13-year career during which he amassed 553 catches for 7,237 yards and 45 TDs. Like Stowers, Cook was a lighter player in need of refinement coming out of college, but he possessed exceptional athleticism.

100 days to the 2026 NFL season: Predictions, injuries, more – ESPNEvolution of the Eagles’ offense. Early indications are that quarterback Jalen Hurts has embraced new coordinator Sean Mannion’s scheme and structure. Things will look different. Hurts will be under center more, with DeVonta Smith now serving as his No. 1 option. The former teammates at Alabama should have more chemistry than Hurts had with A.J. Brown in 2025.

12 Cowboys games in 2026 will be against above average passers – Blogging The BoysIf we take only the 32 presumptive starting QBs for 2026 (with the following adjustment: 2024 passer rating for Deshaun Watson, career average for Malik Willis, and 2025 NFL average for rookie Fernando Mendoza), the average passer rating jumps to 94.7. That in turn means the Cowboys “only” play against eight above average passers, thus making schedule look much more palatable. On paper. But the game is not played on paper. Any way you look at it, the Cowboys will play a lot of very good quarterbacks this year. Last year, it felt like the Cowboys made every run-of-the-mill QB look like a bona fide NFL superstar. Can they do better this year?

Adam Peters gave Washington Commanders great depth for 2026 NFL season – Hogs HavenOverall, this is the best team depth I can remember Washington having since before the turn of the century. Every team in the NFL is just one injury away from having to turn to their depth and, as you clearly saw with last year’s Commanders, that did not work out very well. I’m much more confident that if the Commanders’ depth is yet again tested this season that this group will be much better prepared to handle it.

NY Giants work out Odell Beckham Jr., 3 other veteran wide receivers – Big Blue ViewThe New York Giants are not putting all of their veteran wide receiver eggs in the Odell Beckham Jr. basket. The Giants DID work out Beckham on Monday, as had previously been reported. Beckham was joined, though, by three other veteran wide receivers, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. Braxton Berrios, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Anthony Miller also worked out for the Giants.
