ESPN analyst: Seahawks worst offseason move is ‘not doing more to upgrade’ o-line

I shouldn’t really give this the light of day but it’s the end of May and there’s just not a whole lot going on during this time of the NFL offseason. Still, if you want lath

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell listed the best and worst offseason deals and decisions for every NFC team. For the Seattle Seahawks, he said re-signing Josh Jobe was the best move, which I don’t really disagree with given the team was never going to re-sign Riq Woolen, so why create a huge hole at cornerback? Anyway, the “worst” move is… well… are we really doing the offensive line thing again?

Worst: Not doing more to upgrade the offensive line. I know, I know. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl while people like me were complaining that the interior of their offensive line (Grey Zabel aside) wasn’t good enough. I wouldn’t say that the line was great, but on the biggest stage, it was indeed good enough to win a title.

With the defense taking hits in free agency and Kenneth Walker leaving for the Chiefs, though, I would have liked general manager John Schneider to put a little more into building the line. His only addition was fifth-round pick Beau Stephens. Adding someone to offer competition for right guard Anthony Bradford, whom teams targeted throughout the season, or extra depth to help if oft-injured right tackle Abraham Lucas doesn’t play all 17 games after doing so for the first time in 2025, would help. But then again, I also said that last year, and it didn’t matter.

What more could Seattle have done to upgrade the offensive line? Sign Tyler Linderbaum at center and then sign Isaac Seumalo to play right guard? Draft a guard in Round 1?

The Seahawks have their left tackle and guard combo in Charles Cross and Grey Zabel, Abe Lucas went the distance for the first time in his career, which leaves you with center and right guard as question marks. Jalen Sundell played well enough and is so ridiculously inexpensive that there’s no real reason to have another starting center this season.

Anthony Bradford is the weak link on the OL but he isn’t nearly as disastrous as he once was. The Seahawks drafting Beau Stephens indicates that he’s not a total lock to keep his starting job this year, plus Seattle is thinking ahead knowing Bradford is not under contract in 2027.

Barnwell conveniently ignored that the Seahawks re-signed Josh Jones, who filled in very well for Charles Cross when Cross missed the last three regular season games with a hamstring injury. Jones is a swing tackle who can play on either side, in addition to guard.

Seattle’s offensive line was a net positive last year, words I didn’t think I’d ever get to say again! It’s an extremely young group with only Sundell and Bradford out of contract next year, and Sundell is a restricted free agent who could easily be tendered. I thought we were over this tired narrative, but I guess not.
