Another tragedy has struck the Alaskan Bush People Brown family as Bear Brown announces the death of his brother, MattBrown.
Known for appearing on the Discovery Channel series, Matt has died in Washington at 42. His body was found floating in a river, his brother Bear shared in an Instagram video. Details surrounding the death are still emerging.
Bear’s Instagram feed was flooded with supportive comments, including from fans who noted the Brown family is still grieving the loss of their father, Billy Brown. "I’m so sorry!!! ? Your Dad has his arms around him❤️," one person wrote. Another shared, "Matts troubles are at rest. Rest easy knowing he is with your Dad! Sorry for your pain."
Matt's death comes only five years after Billy's unexpected death at 68 in February 2021 after suffering a seizure. At the time, Bear once again served as the family spokesperson, saying the family was heartbroken.
"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure," Bear wrote on Instagram. "He was our best friend — a wonderful and loving dad, granddad, and husband, and he will be dearly missed."
He continued, "He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land, and taught us to live like that as well. We plan to honor his legacy going forward and to continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time. God Bless Everyone!"
Billy's loss was still felt years later when Bear posted a tribute to his father last August. “Miss the days when he was still here,” Bear wrote along with a photo of his mother, Ami Brown and father.
View this post on InstagramThe double family loss comes after Ami faced advanced lung cancer in 2017. "I had some pain in my back," she shared with People. "Walking from the house to the garden, I would get winded. There were days I was just bedridden, but I just thought it was my arthritis. We were filming the show and at times it was all I could do to just stand there — I was in so much pain. When we were shooting promo shots I told them, 'There's something wrong.' In December [2016] I went to the dentist to get impressions made for new teeth and when they did a scan they noticed a little capsule. That's how this all started."
Ami started treatment, which included radiation and chemotherapy, and was declared cancer-free in 2018.
The family now faces a long road to healing. "I would have never suspected he would have hurt himself, honestly. He struggled for a long time, as I've mentioned," Bear said in the Instagram video about Matt. "And I worried he was going to end up, like, OD'd or something like that. I didn't think he would hurt himself. It does look as thought the injury is self inflicted. Obviously, the coroner and stuff still has to look at him and stuff, but I thought that y'all guys should know that it is him."
