President Donald Trump once again took shots at both Pope Leo XIV and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in a post on social media on Saturday, this time taking aim at their recent meeting in Rome.
“Someone should explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is useless, and that Iran cannot have a Nuclear Weapon! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote in the post.
He also linked to two posts on X from Mayor Brandon Johnson during his visit this week to Rome. In the posts from Johnson, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with Pope Leo XIV.
“Joining our Chicago faith community and His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, for a multi-faith prayer at the Vatican, yesterday, was one of the most awe-inspiring and humbling experiences of my life,” Johnson said in one of the posts that was included in Trump’s post.
Johnson responded in his own social media post on Saturday, stating “Chicagoans have had enough of Trump’s blasphemous war in Iran. Someone should explain to the president that his belligerence is only making it harder for working families to make ends meet.”
Johnson traveled to Rome with a delegation of some 50 local officials this week, a trip that included his first meeting with the Chicago-born pontiff, a tour of a new metro station and a meeting with the Mayor of Rome.
