French U18 Championships

May 25-30, 2026 Chalon-sur-Saône, France LCM (50 Meters) Live Results Days 1-4 Recap

The French U18 Swimming Championships wrapped up on Saturday, and while there were no junior age records set during the final two days of competition, the races were still fast as a few swimmers set themselves up to qualify for the European Junior Championships later this summer.

Nathan Muratory, who is committed to Michigan for 2026, was the top swimmer of the final two days again, winning the men’s 200 backstroke, stopping the clock in 1:57.31. This was a second drop from the 1:58.82 he swam at last summer’s European Junior Championships.

This swim for Muratory, who split 27.77/29.58/30.08/29.88, won the event by seven seconds over 2nd place finisher Francois Labouglie, who touched in 2:05.03 to finish 2nd. It also came in under the consideration time for the French senior European Championships of 1:58.45.

He was the only swimmer to come in under a senior qualifying time, but a number of other athletes earned their way onto the European Juniors roster.

On Friday, Jeanne Lechevalier won two events. She swam 2:11.65 in the 200 backstroke and 55.51 in the 100 freestyle. In the 200 backstroke, she was the only swimmer to come in under the ‘A’ qualifying standard of 2:15.37, and in the 100 freestyle, she led Maeline Bessard, who swam 56.03 to also earn the ‘A’ time of 56.28.

On the men’s side of the meet Friday, Rami Rahmouni picked up his 2nd event win of the meet in the 400 freestyle. He stopped the clock in 3:50.27 to be the only men’s athlete to earn the ‘A’ standard of 3:53.76.

Mateo Gregoire-Charmasson won the 200 butterfly on Friday in 1:59.24. He touched just three hundredths ahead of Paolo Couenne Bensabeur, who swam 1:59.27 to finish 2nd. Both undercut the qualifying time of 2:01.66 and will likely earn spots on the European Juniors team. Sauveur Cristofini, who finished 3rd in the event, also came in under the qualifying time, touching in 2:01.19.

Cristofini also won the men’s 100 freestyle on Saturday, touching in 49.49 to come in half-a-second ahead of 2nd place finisher Gabriel Crassard, who stopped the clock in 49.91. Felix Bernhardt took 3rd in 49.98, and Paul Mervant-Dufy swam 50.15 to finish 4th. All four men swam under the qualifying time of 50.44, which is a good sign for their 400 freestyle relay.

Rosalie Mesmacque was the final swimmer to earn a European Juniors time on Saturday, swimming 4:16.31 to earn the win, coming in just two tenths under the ‘A’ standard of 4:16.52.
