Mary Bonnet has confirmed her departure from the Netflix reality show Selling Sunset, explaining that she didn't like the "direction" the show was taking.
The 45-year-old has been a leading cast member since the popular show aired in 2019. Emma Hernan, Chelsea Lazkani and Sandra Vergara were also revealed not to be returning to the show, which follows estate agents at California's The Oppenheim Group.
Mary opened up to People about what she decided to leave the show at the end of season 9. “I signed up for the show, I thought it was gonna be woman empowerment. I thought it was going to be a very positive thing for women and for the real estate industry and I think it's kind of taken a turn from that.”
Mary added that another reason she’s decided to leave is because of the “extremely unfair” editing of the last series, which she claimed made her look like she “was just overreacting the whole season”.
Mary's recent behavior on Selling Sunset has been a major talking point. She was originally a fan favorite but has since become a polarising figure, known for dramatic fallouts with former friends, emotional turbulence and fiery arguments.
“There was so much taken of our context it painted a picture that I think is extremely damaging and I'm just not gonna be involved in that," she told the outlet.
Although she will no longer appear on the reality show, she hasn't given up her real estate job and is still vice president of The Oppenheim Group. “My job is still the same, and the market is pretty slow right now. So that does give me a little bit of extra time to do work on some of these other projects that I'm excited about.”
It is unclear who will be returning for the 10th series of Selling Sunset, as Chrishell Stause and Nicole Young have confirmed they will not be on the cast. A source told the Daily Mail that Bre Tiesi and Amanza Smith are returning for the new season. Christine Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa will also be returning after years away from the series.
“I have no ill will toward the show. The show has given me so many opportunities, and I don’t want to be bitter about it, even though I’m leaving not in the way that I would’ve loved," Chrishell told Bustlelast year.
