Strictly Come Dancing’s new host Josh Widdicombe jokes that he caused one former contestant’s elimination during a set visit in a new clip from this week’s episode of Blankety Blank.
The Last Leg comedian has been announced as one of three new hosts to front the hit BBC show alongside Radio 2 star Emma Willis and Strictly professional favourite Johannes Radebe.
In a press clip from Saturday’s (30 May) episode of Blankety Blank, the panel can be seen teasing Widdicombe about when they’ve worked together in the past.
Former hockey player and broadcaster Sam Quek, who competed on Strictly in 2024, said: “I’ve got a bit of a love-hate relationship with Josh."
She continued: "The last time we had a proper catch up was a certain week in Strictly Come Dancing that happened to be my last."
Widdicombe joked: “I went to watch Strictly Come Dancing, and yes I had a word with the judges and said she wasn’t good enough, but I think she needed to up her game.”
Blankety Blank, which first aired in 1979, returned with a brand new season back in April, with Bradley Walsh once again on hosting duties.
The show sees Walsh invite six famous faces to the studio to complete the missing blanks and assist in securing prizes for some lucky contestants.
Alongside Widdicombe and Quek, this week’s panel also features Helen George, Ria Lina, Dean McCullough, Josh Widdicombe and Sam Campbell.
It was confirmed that Widdicombe, Willis and Radebe would be taking over as the new presenters of Strictly Come Dancing earlier this month, with the trio set to head out onto the dance floor for the first time in their new hosting capacities later this year.
Upon the announcement, Willis said she is a "huge fan" of the show, adding: "To be stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can't quite comprehend."
Widdicombe added that he is "giddy with excitement, honoured and a little overawed to be given the chance to step into the biggest shoes in television".
Radebe said: "To be returning to Strictly Come Dancing in this new role is beyond anything I ever imagined."
