Eastman Museum opens exhibit exploring how photography has been taught and shared across generations

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — News10NBC got a special tour of the George Eastman Museum’s newest exhibit in its collection gallery on Friday.

The exhibit combines works from old history and pieces recently acquired by the museum. The museum acquired 900 new works just last month.

This exhibit is a celebration of lineage — the ways that photography is taught and passed down from generation to generation, even within families.

“Lots of people got their start because their family ran a portrait studio throughout the history of photography, and so you might learn photography from somebody who passed on their information to you, or your family might have given you a camera that you started to practice with,” said Louis Chavez, assistant curator at George Eastman Museum.

The George Eastman Museum is trying to open a second location in Los Angeles. Details are limited right now.
