Mya Breaks Silence on Potential Reunion With Lady Marmalade Artists

Despite years of rumored drama, Mya says she and her "Lady Marmalade" co-artists are "all cool" and doesn't rule out a reunion.

In an exclusive interview with E! News, the "Case of the Ex" singer chatted about the 2001 Grammy-winning hit —which included singers Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Lil' Kim — and the possibility of the artists ever coming together again as the song recently marked its 25th anniversary.

"We are actually all cool," she said. "It's now just about scheduling, budgeting, planning out the proper platform to support it in a major way. Of course we can't do anything less than."

"We have to meet or exceed expectation, that's very important, so that there are no disappointments, and there's just a lot of, I would say, logistical aspects to making something like that happen," she added. "And the fans are not alone, because I'm right there with you. So, fingers crossed."

The song, a remake of Patti Labelle's 1974 version, celebrated female empowerment as all four music icons spanned genres, including pop, R&B, and rap, on their own.

“We worked together as a team as well which I absolutely loved because it wasn’t just a collaboration with one female artist," she said. "We come from different backgrounds and play in different genres and have our own individual careers so I thought that was quite amazing to be a part of…the demographics that would show up when we would perform together was everything."

Mya and Lil' Kim have already had a mini-reunion of sorts as the two performed "Lady Marmalade" together at DJ Cassidy's Pass The Mic Live! at The Kia Forum in February. The song was also a part of the 'Moulin Rouge!' movie soundtrack.

However, as the years passed since the hit solidified itself in pop culture, speculation of drama between the artists, specifically Pink and Aguilera, resulted in rumors of a longtime feud between them.

In a 2008 interview on Watch What Happens Live, the "So What" singer revealed that Aguilera once "swung" at her, but shared that the two ultimately reconciled.

"We were super young and super new at the whole thing and I think I'm an alpha and she's an alpha and I'm used to taking my altercations physical and she's used to having them verbal," Pink said, noting that they made up when they crossed paths on 'The Voice' when Aguilera was a judge and the "Try" singer made a guest appearance. "I hadn't seen her in years and years and years, and we became moms, we grew up, we hugged it out, it's that simple."

Drama aside, the gravity of millennial nostalgia, which has given artists from the '90s and early 2000s a current boost, is something that Mya is grateful for.

“It’s actually pretty cool to see things resurface and take a life of their own in the current day,” she said. ? SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox ?
