ROCHESTER, N.Y. — State Police say a chase Friday morning ended in a three-car crash and a car catching on fire, which killed one person.
State Police say troopers tried to stop a Ford Fusion for a vehicle and traffic violation at around 10:14 a.m. Friday on Hudson Avenue and Avenue D. They say the suspect didn’t pull over, and a chase started.
According to State Police, the chase went through several streets. They say troopers then deployed spike strips on Lake Avenue, which disabled the car.
The Ford Fusion then side-swiped another car and hit a Jeep head-on, State Police say. Three people were in the Jeep and were brought to the hospital for minor injuries, State Police also say.
After the Ford hit the Jeep, State Police say the car caught fire and troopers tried to put out the fire, but weren’t able to. The Rochester Fire Department was called to help put out the fire.
State Police say the driver of the car wasn’t able to get out of the car in time and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The person in the third car involved wasn’t hurt, according to State Police.
Rochester police and state troopers have the area blocked off as they investigate.
