While many students experience big changes in their health and social life in college, there are benefits to staying active and exercising in college. Physical activity can improve anxiety and depression, academic performance and improve long-term health outcomes. There are many places to exercise in Tuscaloosa, both on campus and off.
On Campus
Student Recreation Center The Student Recreation Center, located on 400 Peter Bryce Blvd., has a wide variety of hours designed to fit every student’s schedule. The center is the main recreation center at the University and has multiple weight rooms, cardio areas, a basketball court, a pool and hosts around 12 group fitness classes per day during normal school hours. The facility also includes an outdoor pool and a large tennis and pickleball area.
Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center, or “The Witt,” is located in Presidential Village providing freshman students who live in the dorms with easy access to exercise equipment. The center has a weight room, cardio equipment and a basketball court. The center also features a 40-foot climbing wall and a view of the Black Warrior River from the cardio floor. Recently, the center also began offering one or two classes per day.
Aquatic Center For students who like to swim, the aquatic center, located next to Coleman Coliseum, is another on-campus option for physical activity. Students, faculty and staff can utilize the aquatic center for free in the 10-lane, 25-yard outdoor pool or the 50-meter indoor pool.
Sport Clubs and Intramural Sports The Student Recreation Center is also the home of sport clubs and intramural sports, another option for students who want to remain active on a team. Some club sports include club pickleball, club sailing and club soccer. Club sports often involve weekly practices without the skill or commitment of a Division 1 program, but still allow University students to compete. Intramural sports are a less competitive way of participating in team sports, but they allow students, faculty and staff to compete in a fun and social enviroment.
Tuscaloosa Riverwalk While not directly associated with the University, the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk is on campus along the Black Warrior River located near Presidential Village with a crosswalk connecting the two. The full length of the trail is 4.5 miles with plenty of benches for stopping points.
Off Campus

Randall Family Park and Trailhead is located a short four minutes from the University, making it an easy drive for students who want to get off campus.
