BTS Revives Group’s Historic Visit to Mexico’s National Palace in New Video

BTS dropped the full Bangtan Bomb of the group’s historic visit to Mexico’s National Palace. In a new video shared Wednesday (May 27) on its official channels, the South Korean K-pop supergroup takes fans on a tour inside the presidential residence with President Claudia Sheinbaum, exploring the gardens and sharing an unforgettable moment as they waved to ARMY from the balcony overlooking thousands of fans gathered in the Zócalo, the country’s main public square.

The five-minute video features content very similar to what Sheinbaum previously shared on her TikTok account on May 7, a day after her meeting with the group. It shows the septet having a brief conversation with the president in the presidential office, receiving an official recognition from the Government of Mexico and the moments leading up to when the band stepped out onto the balcony, where the members were met with the roar of 50,000 people (according to official figures) gathered in the Plaza de la Constitución, the official name of the Zócalo.

“¡Hola, somos BTS!” (“Hello, we are BTS!”) RM says to the crowd in the Zócalo, a moment that has already gone viral around the world. In the background, viewers can hear the trumpet of a mariachi band that some members of ARMY Mexico hired to set the mood for the meeting with their idols.

The video then shows RM asking V to say to their Mexican ARMY, “México, mucho picante” or “Mexico, very spicy”), one of the most celebrated phrases by their fandom during the group’s visit to the country. “Ah, it’s crazy,” Jimin says, still amazed by the local crowd’s response.

Another of the touching moments captured in the video shows RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook walking through the gardens of the National Palace, surprised to encounter some of the 16 cats that live at the presidential residence, one of the country’s most iconic colonial buildings.

During her morning press conference Wednesday, Sheinbaum once again thanked the band members for their visit and said the group was very surprised by the warm response from ARMY in the Zócalo. “We asked them, ‘Would you like to come to the National Palace? So people could see you for a few minutes,’” recalled the Mexican head of state. “They said yes, and the best news is that they’re coming back next year. They loved Mexico so much that they decided to return, and it’s also a way to thank their ARMY,” she added, although there has yet to be an official announcement or confirmation from the group and their representatives.

Sheinbaum embraced the wish of Mexico’s ARMY members after tickets for BTS’ three concerts on May 7, 9 and 10 at the Estadio GNP Seguros sold out in less than an hour. Through a letter, the president asked her South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae Myung, for more concerts in the country, as she revealed on Jan. 26. Three weeks later, she announced that the South Korean government had responded, saying they forwarded the request to the company managing the supergroup.

The South Korean president was invited for an official visit to Mexico this September, according to a message shared by Sheinbaum on her social media on May 15.
