House of the Dragon season 3 star reveals new episodes embrace all-out war - as showrunner affirms when Game of Thrones spin-off will end

House of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell has teased an "all-out war" in season 3, while showrunner Ryan Condal has confirmed that it will be the penultimate instalment.

The series, which is set nearly 200 years before the events of the mothership show, chronicles the Targaryen civil war dubbed the Dance of the Dragons.

After building for two seasons, the highly anticipated Battle of the Gullet - a brutal sea battle that many had been expecting in season 2 - will finally erupt between Team Black and Team Green in the season 3 premiere.

And speaking recently to Entertainment Weekly, Condal said that, from an execution perspective, it will "arguably be the craziest episode of television ever made".

"It's all-out war," Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond Targaryen in the series, said of the episode. "It's just a blitz straight out of the gate."

Meanwhile, speaking about his plans for the future of the show, Condal told the publication that season 4 is the planned ending.

"I can't speak for everybody else involved with the show and HBO and all that, but, yes, that is very much my plan," he said.

Alongside Mitchell, returning characters for season 3 include Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.

Meanwhile, new additions to the cast include James Norton, who's joining the cast as Lord Ormund Hightower.
