With an $800,000-plus renovation of its 34,000-square-foot club at 3675 Midway Drive, Point Loma’s “UFC GYM” is much more than just your everyday gym. Having fully upgraded from UFC FIT to the full UFC GYM experience, the facility now boasts expanded training areas, new strength and cardio equipment and an enhanced recovery center. The remodeled space features a larger functional training turf zone, dedicated areas for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and MMA training, plus a new Recovery Center offering services like cryotherapy, red light therapy, compression therapy and HydroMassage. The largest upgrade ever to this location is UFC brand’s “Train Different” concept, blending MMA training, HIIT, strength training and recovery-focused wellness.UFC GYM’s training method is special, says general manager Anthony Najera. “It offers individuals the opportunity to come in and try out classes to learn how to box and burn fat and calories and get in the best shape of their life,” said Najera. The transformation didn’t come without some major planning. The Point Loma facility had to “rethink” its strategy during COVID when indoor classes and training were temporarily suspended. “We had to pivot to a more traditional training facility then, before we were sold to a new ownership group, which has allowed us to be true to ourselves,” he said. “Now with the right branding and color scheme, we’ve added more coaching and classes — that’s who we are.”Najera added that UFC Point Loma members can stick to traditional training or extend their competitive abilities via boxing and kickboxing training. “A big part of the population just wants to get in shape,” he said. “What we’re hoping for when they come in here is that we can provide them with some other means of training as well.”Promoting itself as the ultimate MMA-inspired fitness experience, UFC GYM is on a mission to “revolutionize” fitness training. That’s accomplished by going beyond traditional training methods like weight machines, cardio and fitness training.“We have it all from one-on-one personal training to group fitness classes of 12 to 16 people, to classes for seniors and youth ages 5 to 12 years of age, along with programs for family members as well as things like Zumba,” said Najera. “We’re not just an MMA gym. We have just about everything for everyone in one facility. We have it all.”UFC GYM is the first major brand extension of UFC, the world’s premier MMA organization. With more than 171 locations opened and 940 additional locations currently in development globally, members can enjoy classes ranging from Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to boxing, yoga and its signature Daily Ultimate Training (DUT) while training in state-of-the-art fitness rooms.
