ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Fire Fighters Association Local 1071 said members have voted to not support a vote of no confidence against Fire Chief Stefano Napolitano.
News10NBC was previously sent a letter that called for the vote. According to the letter, the process was set by an amended motion carried at a March 19 General Membership Meeting. The vote was done through anonymous mailed ballots sent to all members in good standing.
The vote came after several concerns over inconsistent disciplinary practices and application of procedures. The letter said firefighters are concerned about a lack of transparency in disciplinary agreements and their effects on member safety and assignments. They also raised issues with workplace safety, including adherence to workplace violence policies and reporting.
News10NBC’s Adelisa Badžić previously spoke with a union member who said there is turmoil between the membership and union leadership.
We also previously reached out to the Rochester Fire Department, which directed us to the City of Rochester. A spokesperson said Mayor Malik Evans has full confidence in Chief Stefano Napolitano.
