Venezuelan national Lismar Lyon lit up the pool in Sacramento this weekend, bringing national records in the 50 and 100 butterfly to new heights.
Lyon, who is 25 years old and swims for South Florida Aquatic Club in Miami, scored a podium finish in the 50 fly with a 26.08. This proved good enough for third, trailing Olympic Champion Torri Huske by less than two tenths and multi-time Olympic medallist Taylor Ruck by .01.
This effort hacked two tenths off Lyon’s own national record of 26.30. This was earned at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore.
In the 100 fly, meanwhile, Lyon got her second national record in three weeks and became the first woman from her home nation under 59. Her time of 58.90 undercut the 59.32 she posted at the Fort Lauderdale Open at the beginning of the month. Prior to May, the old record of 59.37 by Isabel Páez had stood for nearly a decade.
Lyon is the Venezuelan record holder in these two events in short course as well after nabbing them at the 2025 World Cup in Toronto. Her times this month suggest that her short course records of 26.32/58.66 have further room for improvement.
Outside of the swimming world, Lyon has gained a following for starring in Telemundo’s hit fitness reality TV competition “Exatlón U.S.”. She participated in the show’s 2024-2025 season before returning focus to the pool and doing damage to Venezuela’s record board.
