ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The holiday weekend has started as a washout. As of early Saturday evening, radar estimates show Rochester is near an inch of rainfall.
Though this system is bringing a measurable amount of rain, flood threat remains very low, so the Threat Tracker will stay green. Widespread rain will transition to scattered rain showers overnight as the main system loses steam over the lower Great Lakes. Expect scattered rain showers to continue Saturday overnight with lingering showers through Sunday morning. Low temperatures Saturday night will hover around 49 degrees with winds out of the southeast between 15 and 25 mph. Gusts may still occasionally reach 30 mph Saturday night.
Rain showers will linger around Sunday morning, however, the coverage of these showers will decrease as the morning progresses. Wind gusts will also diminish as winds transition to out of the southeast between 10 to 20 mph. Undoubtedly, Sunday will be an improvement from the start of the weekend. However, a 40% chance of passing scattered showers will remain through the end Sunday. Temperatures become more seasonable with a high around 70 degrees. We are tracking increasing rain showers in the evening, so if you have any outdoor dining plans, please keep an eye on the radar for passing showers and a rumble of thunder after 6 p.m.
Rain showers continue through Sunday overnight with temperatures dropping near 57 degrees. Winds change over to the southwest and stay between 5-10 mph. Finally, the rain showers move out by Memorial Day morning and the sun makes an appearance for a majority of Monday. A warm southwesterly wind will keep temperatures near 73 degrees. Besides the lingering showers Monday morning, the rest of Memorial Day remains mainly dry.
