Beloved Pop-Rock Duo Causes A Stir After Disbanding

Dirty Blonde had some unfortunate news for their fans.

The English pop-rock duo, made up of Ailis Mackay and Hayley Tait, announced and officially confirmed on Wednesdayvia an Instagram post that they "have parted ways as a band." Originally formed in Manchester in early 2023, Dirty Blonde was known for its unique indie sound.

"As some of you may already know, we have parted ways as a band," the statement read. "We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved, but most importantly, we’ve met so many people along the way who have made it unforgettable, and we’ve made some friends for life. To every single one of you who came to our shows, streamed our music, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on from afar, thank you. It truly meant the world to us."

The duo did not provide a reason for their split.

Dirty Blonde released their debut EP Favourite Record in 2023, which included their top hit "Come Over." Then two years later, they released a second EP titled Looking for Trouble, as well as a string of singles to promote the record. "Indie Sleaze" is the band's latest release, which they were heavily promoting on social media before their split.

The new single was released on March 4, and the last time the group posted on their joint Instagram account was on March 12. For more than two months, Dirty Blonde was silent on socials, which caused some speculation. The Wednesday announcement confirmed fans' suspicions. Despite the terrible news, fans still showed their support for the two, wishing them success in their next endeavors.

"I AM SO SAD?," a fan commented. "grateful to have met you queens, I hope whatever’s next for you both is exactly what you need. Thanks for everything!"

One user replied, "it's legit 1d 2.0," referring to One Direction's breakup that shook the world a decade ago.

"Really sad to hear this! ?," another user shared. "wishing you all the best for whatever you do in the future ???."

Another fan commented, "Gutted but thank you for the music and incredible live shows."

"Sorry to hear this gals," another said. "Good luck with whatever you do next ??x."

"Really sorry to hear this. Hope your futures are bright," another fan wrote. "You have so much talent Im sure you’ll knock it out the park whatever you do. All the best x."

"Good luck for whatever you do in the future, gutted reading this but guessed it was coming," a fan replied. "Glad to get to the Manchester gig after numerous others. Your music lives on but sad news?."

The duo first met in 2022 through Instagram and decided to become a band while on a deep-sea fishing trip in Greece. Throughout their three years as a group, Dirty Blonde has released multiple songs, gone on tour throughout the UK and opened for many artists, including The Lottery Winners, The Subways, Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols, Louis Tomlinson and The K's.

"Individually, we had different routes that led us to being in Dirty Blonde. Hayley wanted to be Mark Ronson and Ailis wanted to be Dave Grohl. The band came together when we met on Instagram and realised we were as delusional as each other," they told Broken 8 Music in 2023, when asked how they started making music. "We’d gotten used to working remotely throughout COVID, so we worked on some demos together initially before turning it into Dirty Blonde."

As for what's next, neither of them has officially announced anything yet, but MacKay, who served as the duo's vocalist, guitarist and drummer, has been teasing new music on her personal Instagram account since two days ago.

"I don't know who needs to hear this but...it's ok to let go, start over and try something new," MacKay shared in a photo. "New beginnings can be exactly what your life needs."
