ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Volunteers with Walking For Rochester spent the day at Ontario Beach Park, working to clean up litter and improve the shoreline ahead of the busy holiday weekend.

It’s part of a joint effort with Greenlight Biosciences. Dozens of community members walked the park, picking up trash along the beach, parking areas and nearby trails.
Organizers say the goal is not just to clean up, but to bring people together and encourage pride in keeping local spaces safe and welcoming, especially after the recent fights at the beach.
“We know that there was an incident that happened here that may have sparked a little bit of a shadow on Rochester, but we wanted to come out and show the good side of Rochester, you know that people still care about this community,” said Matt Apple, Cofounder and CEO for Walking For Rochester.
With crowds expected for Memorial Day, volunteers hope their work helps keep the park cleaner for everyone.
