ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Memorial Day Weekend will start off on a wet note. Showers will move from south to north first thing Saturday morning. First in the form of scattered showers, then becoming a widespread light rain through the morning hours. We’ll see some pockets of moderate rain into the afternoon as a warm front lifts through the region. The steadiest rain will taper Saturday night, with a few lingering showers into Sunday morning. In all, most spots will see about a half inch to inch of rain between Saturday and Sunday mornings. While we’ve had a wet spring and certainly don’t need more steady rain, we shouldn’t see widespread flooding issues this weekend, so we’ll keep it green on the Threat Tracker.
Saturday will also be breezy to windy with a busy wind out of the southeast 15-20mph, with some gusts pushing 30 mph. So not only will it be a rainy day, it’ll be a wind-driven day at times. The wind will ease by Sunday morning. With the clouds and rain on Saturday, temperatures will hold in the lower to mid 50s.
The rest of the Memorial Day Weekend will feature improving weather. Showers Sunday morning should move away, with a little bit of sun making a return by the afternoon. The drier weather and little bit of sun will help to push us into the 60s on Sunday. Memorial Day itself looks pretty good. There is still the slight chance of a passing shower, but most of the day should be dry and mild with highs near 70.
We’ll see a blocking pattern setting up for us into the middle to end of next week, which overall will keep us seasonably mild and mostly dry with a fair amount of sun. Summer-like warmth may start to make a return by next weekend.
