Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

After first sharing her intentions to swim for the University of Kentucky, Brazil’s Mariana Moraes Caldeira has announced her verbal commitment to compete for Iowa State University beginning in the fall of 2026.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Iowa State University to continue my athletic and academic career! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all the support throughout this journey. A special thank you to Coach Matt and Coach Morgan for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. Proud to be a Cyclone!!”

A freestyle and breaststroke specialist, Caldeira currently trains with SESI-SP in Sao Paulo.

Caldeira just wrapped up a weekend of competition at the 2026 Maria Lenk Trophy (LCM) in Rio, where she contested four individual events. She placed 9th in the 50 breast (33.20), 18th in the 100 breast (1:15.26) and 27th in the 50 back (31.36).

At the 2025 Brazilian Open Swimming Championships (LCM) in December, Caldeira turned in a series of strong performances. She placed 9th in the 400 free (4:26.81 – PB) and 50 breast (33.80), 10th in the 100 breast (1:15.02) and 11th in the 50 free (27.22) and 100 free (58.19 – SB).

Most of Caldeira’s top times in LCM stand from the 2024-2025 season. She posted a personal best time of 58.16 in the 100 free in December 2024 and turned in lifetime best times of 1:12.55 in the 100 breast and 2:42.90 in the 200 breast in March 2025. At the 2025 Brazilian National Swimming Championships, she set new best times in the 200 free (2:06.93) and the 50 breast (32.65).

Caldeira is also a strong competitor in the SCM events. At the 2025 SP Winter Swimming Open in June, she threw down new personal best times in the 200 free (1:59.93), 400 free (4:13.26) and 50 breast (31.76). She also holds a lifetime best time of 1:09.62 in the 100 breast from November 2024.

    Best Times SCM (SCY Conversion)

    100 free – 56.48 (50.88) 200 free – 1:59.93 (1:48.04) 400 free – 4:13.26 (4:49.43) 50 breast – 31.76 (28.61) 100 breast – 1:09.62 (1:02.72)

A Division I program led by Head Coach Matt Leach, Iowa State competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the women’s team finishing 9th out of 10 teams at the conference championships this past season. Based on the results at the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships, Caldeira would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 500 free, the ‘B’ final in the 200 free and the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast with her projected SCY times, setting her up to be a strong contributor right from the start.

On the team itself, Caldeira is currently poised to be the Cyclones fastest competitor in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free and rank 2nd in the 50 breast and 4th in the 100 breast next season, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.

The full list of recruits joining Caldeira in Iowa State’s class of 2030 includes Claire Dobrydney, Audrey Lindstrom, Asia Salvato, Hayden Bailey, Tessa Moore, Katie Malm and Scout McQueen, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
