KENDALL, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two multi-sport athletes at Kendall High School are balancing demanding schedules while excelling on the tennis court.
Joey Fagan is a two-sport star at Kendall, playing soccer and tennis. Jonathan Esposito plays soccer, hockey and in the spring — tennis and golf.
“We had like three or four tennis matches in one week and I had a golf match during the day. It was 18 holes. I walked the whole thing and came back and was late to a tennis match,” Esposito joked.
In the spring, both athletes focus on tennis, where they are serving up some of the best performances Kendall High has seen.

“We’re kind of expected to win, I guess,” Fagan said.
While Esposito usually misses tennis practice for golf matches and vice versa, Fagan has had to overcome more serious battles. The senior has Stage 3 kidney disease, which has also required him to miss time on the court.
“My entire life. I’ve kind of — not kept it hidden — but not let it dictate what I’ve done with my life,” Fagan said.
The disease hasn’t held him back from giving sports his all.
“Growing up with it when I was younger, dealing with it my whole life has kind of helped me realize that I don’t have to let it decide what I do with my life,” Fagan said.
“He just does what he loves and it’s great to see that,” Esposito said.
In college, the teammates will rise above even more. Esposito is headed to St. John Fisher to study nursing. Fagan will attend RIT for mechanical engineering.
As they head separate ways, the support for each other won’t waver.
“We’ve always been there for each other. It’s pretty much all year round we’re playing with each other,” Esposito said.
“I feel really supported so that’s kind of helped me a lot. I know that they’re always gonna be there for me even after high school,” Fagan said.
