ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Cardiac arrest survivors came face-to-face with the people who saved their lives during a powerful moment in downtown Rochester.
Rochester and Monroe County leaders joined medical services provider American Medical Response for the fifth annual Cardiac Arrest Survivor Recognition Ceremony Thursday morning. The ceremony, held during EMS Week, brings together survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests and the EMS professionals who helped save their lives in the past year.
Organizers say it takes a special type of person to be an EMT.
“All of these lives you touch, you leave a little something, your little connection,” Dr. Connie Vernetti of Rochester Regional Health said. “What you do means moms get to go home to their kids and grandparents get to watch their grandkids graduate. It’s a huge deal,” Vernetti said.
The event is part of the ongoing effort to achieve the National Citizen CPR Foundation’s Heartsafe Community designation.
