The unofficial start to summer will begin on the chillier side, with Memorial Day weekend kicking off in the Chicago area with temperatures in the 50s and a beach hazards statement in effect for Lake Michigan.
That number will go slightly up Friday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said, with temperatures in the mid 60s and a slight chance of rain at times. As the weekend goes on, temperatures in the Chicago area will increase, but they’ll be even warmer elsewhere.
“Warmer, much warmer, if you’re traveling west or south than if you’re going north or east,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes said. Jeanes broke down what the forecast for the Midwest looks like, with warmer readings in Galena and much chiller temperatures along the lake in Wisconsin and MIchigan, including Milwaukee, Sheboygan, South Haven, Door County and Bear Lake.
Saturday, temperatures in the Chicago area will reach 72 degrees, Jeanes said, with a high of 78 on Sunday and a slight chance of rain in overnight and into the morning.
Monday, Memorial Day looks to be sunny and warm, with 80 degree temperatures.
“Most of the weekend at least, looks to stay dry,” Jeanes said.
