BATH, N.Y. — Bath Police say three men attacked and seriously injured a 39-year-old victim during a gang assault at a motel.
The victim remains hospitalized in guarded but stable condition. William Hargrave, Cheyne Bonnewell, and Adam El-Gaaly are all charged with first-degree gang assault.
Officers say they originally responded to the Super 8 Motel on West Morris Street around 5 p.m. for the report of an unconscious man who may have fallen and hit his head. Instead, the officers found him with injuries from an assault and began investigating.
The victim was flown to the hospital to treat his injuries. Police say they soon identified three suspects in the assault, all of whom were staying at the motel. Hargrave, 61, was arrested at the scene. Officers then arrested El-Gaaly, 34, after searching multiple rooms on a warrant. Steuben County sheriff’s deputies arrested Bonnewell, 25, while he was walking on West Morris Street.
In addition to gang assault, Hargrave is charged with robbery after police say they found him with property belonging to the victim. Police say Hargrave is a seven-time convicted felon in New York State.
All suspects were taken to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment, where Hargrave remains with bail. El-Gaaly and Bonnewell are being held on $150,000 bail.
Police say the suspects knew the victim, and there was never any danger to the public. Police are still investigating and say they may file additional charges.
