The Tribunes are 37-8 and went unbeaten in the playoffs to punch their ticket to Oklahoma. They even won 15 straight games at one point this season and boast a team batting average of .355 while holding opponents to just .245.

“Obviously our run differential’s amazing. Our pitching has been great. So we’re just going to roll in there and just try to play our best,” sophomore Aaron Reina said.

Head Coach David Brust will be making his fourth World Series appearance this weekend. For all of his players, it will be their first.

“Enjoy it with your teammates and don’t take it for granted,” Reina said of Brust’s advice.

Aaron Reina helped send MCC to the World Series with a go-ahead two-run triple in the eighth inning of the East District final. One batter later, his brother Braedon brought him home to extend the lead.

“Being able to have this experience with him, you know, it’s been one of the greatest things I can ever ask for. And one of the greatest things I’ll probably experience,” Braedon Reina said.

Their father Joe (who is also the U of R’s head baseball coach) also played for MCC baseball, as did Coach Brust. Starting pitcher Jaden Sherwood’s brother Trevor was also on the team back in 2018 and 2019.

“He’s just telling me, these teams are going to be really good, but you’re just as good,” Jaden Sherwood said of his brother’s advice.

The roster includes 11 Section V players from seven different schools, making former high school rivals into teammates.

“Competing against each other and then now being on the same team, I just think it really helps our team chemistry,” Connor Osier said.

The Tribunes are heading to Oklahoma with one clear goal in mind.

“I mean, obviously we want to win it,” Osier said.

“Oh, obviously win. The whole thing,” Sherwood said.

“Winning it all is end goal,” Braedon Reina said.

MCC will play their first game against Iowa Central at 11 a.m. Saturday.
