PENN YAN, N.Y. — According to Penn Yan police, a teen was arrested back on May 12, due to assaulting a school resource officer and another staff member at Penn Yan Academy.
Police say a 16-year-old was originally involved in a verbal altercation with another student. This then led to the school staff members, who attempted to de-escalate the fight, being assaulted by the student, police added.
The teen was charged with two counts of attempted assault in the second degree and obstructing governmental administration.
The teen was processed and arraigned at Yates County Youth Part Court, and then released to a guardian.
