Nika King isn’t holding back her thoughts on Sunday night’s episode of Euphoria.
King, who plays Rue’s (Zendaya) mother Leslie, finally appeared in season three, episode six, “Stand Still and See,” when Rue received a surprise call from her mom. During the conversation, Rue spoke about trying to make better choices after the dangerous work she’s been involved in. However, most of the scene was shown from Rue’s perspective, with the camera only briefly cutting to King on the other end of the phone saying, “I love you, Rue.”
Still, King was surprised to discover she only had one line in the episode.
Following the episode’s airing, King took to social media to share her reaction.
“I just watched the episode that I’ve been promoting all week — and my mom over here is clowning me!” King said with a laugh. “She said the internet waited all this time for me to just say one line.”
She then turned to her mother, who could be heard in the background adding, “three years,” referring to the gap between seasons two and three. Season two premiered in 2022.
“Y’all I can’t do nothing but laugh at this. When your mama clown you. I don’t know,” she continued. “You better be glad I have a sense of humor. You better be glad I’ve got thick skin.”
King also revealed the scene she filmed that didn’t make the final cut in another Instagram post shared Tuesday.
“This scene didn’t make the cut but when I walked on set and saw this Bible on the table, I got emotional,” she wrote. “Not as Leslie, but as Nika. Because there have been so many times in my life where all I could do was sit down, open the Word and ask TMH to help me keep going.”
This isn’t the first time King has been vocal about wanting to appear in more of Euphoria.
In March 2024, King made headlines for jokes she made during a stand-up set about struggling to pay rent due to the long breaks between seasons of Sam Levinson’s drama series.
“Season three is coming out … I don’t fucking know,” the comedian said on stage. “Don’t ask me, I don’t know. … ‘We need season three!’ Bitch, I need season three! I haven’t paid my rent in six months. And Zendaya’s over in Paris at Fashion Week. I’m like, ‘Bitch, come home! I need you! Mama needs you.’”
King later walked back the comments, telling The Hollywood Reporter in a statement that they were “a lighthearted joke.”
