For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Brazilian swimmer Kauã Santos Carvalho, a World Juniors semifinalist and Brazilian national age group record-holder, has announced his commitment to swim for Auburn University beginning in the fall of 2026.

Hailing from São Paulo, Carvalho currently trains with Servico Social Da Industria SP (SESI-SP), where he excels at the breaststroke events.

The 2024-2025 competition season saw Carvalho log a series of top performances, setting new personal best times in most of his top events. At the 2025 Brazilian Absolute Swimming Championship (LCM) last April, he turned in three lifetime best performances. He took 2nd in the 100 breast (1:01.38), 5th in the 50 breast (28.11) and 7th in the 200 breast (2:19.44) after posting personal best times of 1:01.30, 27.89 and 2:18.50, respectively, in each event during prelims. He also contested the 200 IM (2:17.31).

Carvalho lowered his times even further a few weeks later at the open trials of the 112th Spanish Absolute Championship (LCM) in June; he turned in lifetime best times of 27.71 in the 50 breast and 2:17.45 in the 200 breast.

At the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Championships (LCM), Carvalho made it to the semifinals in two individual events. He placed 13th in both the 50 breast (28.02) and 100 breast (1:01.31), and he finished 25th in the 200 breast (2:19.76).

Carvalho continued to shine at the 2025 Brazilian Open Swimming Championships (LCM) in December. He won the 50 breast (27.99) and claimed the runner-up spot in both the 200 breast (2:15.78 – PB) and in the 100 breast (1:01.71) after posting a best time of 1:01.11 during prelims. He also contested the 50 free (24.50).

Carvalho has broken multiple Brazilian national age group records over the years. In 2023, he shattered the record for 15-year-old boys in the 100 breaststroke (LCM) with a time of 1:02.25, marking his fourth time lowering the record within a six-month period. He currently holds the national records for 17-year-old boys in the LCM 50 breast (27.71) and 100 breast (1:01.11).

    Best Times LCM (SCY Conversion)

    50 breast – 27.71 (24.06) 100 breast – 1:01.11 (53.25) 200 breast – 2:15.78 (1:58.72)

A Division I program, Auburn is part of the Southeastern Conference, with the men’s team taking 5th-place at this past season’s conference championships before sending six athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Championships, where they finished 17th overall. To earn a second swim at the 2026 SEC Championships, it took times of 53.20/1:56.40 in the 100/200 breast, putting Carvalho just outside the cutoff in his top events.

On the team itself, Carvalho is currently poised to be the Tigers’ 2nd-fastest competitor in the 50 breast and rank 3rd in the 100 breast and 200 breast this coming season based on his projected converted times, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.

Auburn has a prominent international base on the team, with seven international swimmers returning to the men’s roster in the fall and another nine joining as freshmen, including fellow Brazilian recruits Nicolas Gama and Gabriel Machuco.

The full list of recruits set to join Carvalho in the pool in the fall includes Machuco, Gama, Sebestyen Papp, Matthew Hamilton, Mike Rice, Alexey Glivinskiy, Arsen Kozhakhmetov, Tsvetomir Ereminov and Peder Saur Hubred, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
