ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brooklynn Rivera, a junior at Greece Olympia, is being honored for turning in a missing purse that she found in the school’s parking lot.
Brooklynn is among this year’s recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards. She found the purse with money inside last December and gave it to an adult. Brookylnn’s counselor describes her as a role model for her peers. Brooklynn spoke about why she decided to do the right thing.
“I know I wouldn’t want it done to any of my people. That’s not the right thing to do, you know? So anything with that, it wasn’t mine, it didn’t belong to me, so I just returned it so they could get it back,” she said.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
