ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Summer has arrived a little early for Western New York. The combination of higher humidity and near record temperatures are making it feel more like the middle of July. The record for Monday is 92 degrees and that has stood for 137 years (1889) and Tuesday the record is 89 degrees set in 1996. This steamy weather will last just two days as a strong well defined cold front will arrive Tuesday night.
Along this front, a squall line of showers and thunderstorms will move west to east across our area, and there is the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms. These storms may have gusty winds, downpours, and possibly hail. Due to the severe weather threat, News10NBC meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for Tuesday night.
Tonight, look for an isolated shower west of Rochester. It will be rather balmy for this time of the year with the low temperature only falling into the upper 60s. Tuesday brings more heat and humidity with the high temperature near 89 degrees. It will be breezy at times. Then showers and a few thunderstorms are likely for Tuesday evening with the temperature falling into the middle 50s. Wednesday morning showers are likely with breaks of sunshine returning for the afternoon. But it will be much cooler with the temperature falling through the 60s into the 50s.
