Hayden Panettiere is recalling the devastating story of giving birth to her daughter, Kaya.
The actress, 36, kicked off her acting career as a baby, racking up almost 50 commercials under her belt before she turned five years old. She later rose to superstardom on the hit show Heroes, and continued her reign on the popular series Nashville. Appearances in films like Scream 6 solidified her stardom, but there was tremendous trouble bubbling up behind the scenes. In her new memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, Panettiere shares all about the beginning of her stardom and the devastating stories behind her pain, which has led to substance abuse issues and mental health struggles. But in a new appearance on CBS Mornings, Panettiere told Gayle King that while she had a "wonderful pregnancy" that allowed her to "work throughout her whole pregnancy," things took a dangerous turn when it came time to deliver her baby.
"I had a really rough birth to the point where I almost didn't make it through," Panettiere told King during their intimate discussion.

While Kaya was healthy after the difficult birth, it was Hayden who struggled tremendously with postpartum depression. Though she desperately wanted to be happy, she just couldn't make it happen.
"There I am with this beautiful, healthy, beautiful baby girl and this very fortunate life ... and I could not for the life of me be happy," she told King. "I was so depressed. I just couldn't find my way out."
How Is Panettiere's Relationship With Her Daughter Now?
Panettiere's daughter with ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko is now 11. While her daughter lives in Ukraine, she said they have a great relationship.
"I'm so blessed to have a great relationship with her," says Panettiere. "I fly over there as much as I can. I'm on FaceTime with her all the time. She's now 11 years old, and she's calling Mommy more and more."
