ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Lilliana Curtis, a junior at the Aquinas Institute, is being honored for her volunteer work. She is among this year’s recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards.
When she was a child, educators tutored Lilliana at the Notre Dame Learning Center. Now she’s returning the favor. Lilliana volunteers over 80 hours per year to help elementary school students.
On top of volunteering, Lilliana is also involved in boxing, dance, tennis, and Girl Scouts. We asked Lilliana about what inspired her to volunteer.
“I want to change those little kids’ lives, too. I want to help them learn. So, I think that’s why it’s important to give back to that community,” she said.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here.
