Speedo Sectionals qualifier Alen Cindric has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Brown University beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on Instagram, writing:

I’m extremely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Brown University to continue my academic and athletic career! First, I would like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for supporting me through my journey. I’d also like to thank Coach Bruce, Blake, JP, and Matt for helping me get here. Finally, I want to thank Coach Kevin and Coach Matt for giving me the opportunity to be part of such an amazing program. I’m excited to see what the future holds! Go Bruno!

A junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School in North Carolina, Cindric began competing for his school’s swimming and diving team during his sophomore year. He also currently trains year-round with the TAC Titans, where he primarily specializes in distance freestyle and IM.

Cindric has qualified for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) State Championships each of the past two seasons. He scored for the first time this past February, placing fourth in the 500 free (4:32.32), fifth in the 200 IM (1:53.91), in addition to helping Cardinal Gibbons finish second in the 200 medley relay (26.95 breast split) and third in the 200 free relay (21.67 split).

Cindric’s best meet of the season occurred at Speedo Sectionals – Cary at the end of March, where he posted all of his current best times in the distance events. He earned bronze in the 1650 free (15:31.66), fifth in the 500 free (4:29.72), sixth in the 400 IM (3:57.24), and seventh in the 1000 free (9:19.89), wrapping up a breakthrough 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop over 30 seconds in the 1650 free and over six seconds in the 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM.

Top SCY Times:

A Division I program, Brown competes in the Ivy League, with the men’s team placing sixth out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships.

Based on the results from the meet, Cindric’s 1650 personal best would have placed 19th, already putting him in scoring position with two full seasons remaining before his first conference meet. Meanwhile, times of 1:40.38 and 4:27.23 were needed to earn a second swim in the 200 and 500 free, currently putting Cindric outside those cutoffs.

Cindric joins fellow distance freestyler Johnny Macko, who boasts PBs of 1:39.47/4:27.35/15:15.35, as well as Ethan Landon (sprint fly/back), Henry Holtan (fly, back, & IM) in committing to the Bears’ class of 2031 so far.

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
