The CIF State Championships are now in the books. In total, the 2026 CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships saw six state meet records fall, while also producing several big-time performances across the competition.

The first meet record to fall came in the men’s 200 medley relay, as the Valley Christian quartet of Garic Shao (23.06), Jack Cameron (23.98), Robert White III (22.90), and a heroic anchor leg from Yury Kuzmenko (18.86) combined in 1:28.80,  managing to take down the three-year-old mark of 1:29.01 previously held by Santa Margarita in 2023. When comparing the two record-setting relays, the only leg that was even remotely similar was the backstroke, as the 2023 Santa Margarita relay was led off by Humberto Najera in 22.38, while Shao was about three tenths faster this year. Every other leg was at least a full second faster, with Valley Christian outpacing the 2023 record heavily on both the breaststroke (23.98 to 25.31) and free (18.86 to 20.12) to seal the deal.

Khanh Seaton became the fastest 50 freestyler ever at the CIF State Championships, taking the girls’ 50 free title in 22.22, over six tenths better than the rest of the event field. That time just clipped Jada Duncan‘s year-old standard by one-hundredth of a second in 22.23. Despite the record-breaking time, the Michigan commit for 2027 still sits two tenths off of her best time of 22.02, which is only a week-old best, having clocked that the weekend before at the North Coast Sectional.

Seaton later went on to sweep the sprint freestyle events, winning the 100 free by over a full second in 48.22, just two tenths off of the state meet record from last year, as Tegan O’Dell clocked 48.02.

The men’s 50 free saw similar sparks, as West Park’s Jordan Ragland broke the state meet record for the 2nd time at these championships, having initially clocked 19.37 in the prelims, he destroyed that time in the event’s final, touching in a new lifetime best of 19.18. He was more than two tenths quicker than the rest of the field; the next-closest finisher to Ragland was Kuzmenko in 19.41. The drop-off from 2nd to 3rd was even larger, as Tyler Porter finished 3rd in 19.85, the third and final person in the event to crack 20 seconds.

In the very next event of the meet, the girls’ 100 fly, Kelsey Zhang downed another Jada Duncan state meet record, becoming the first CIF state championship swimmer to ever dip under the 52-second barrier in the 100 fly, taking the win in 51.83, more than six tenths faster than the field. That performance marked the 2nd event title for Zhang on the day, having captured 2000 IM earlier in the meet in a battle with Isabel Wu (1:58.39) and Kayla Han (1:58.44), ultimately touching ahead of both in 1:58.07.

Ragland returned to the top spot on the podium in the 100 free, finishing .19 ahead of Nathan Foucu to win in 42.33, notching a new state meet record, a record that Foucu set in prelims in 42.76. Ragland has been as fast as 42.24 in his career, which he swam at the Winter Junior Championships in December.

The final record-breaking swim of the meet came in the men’s 100 breast, as Shareef Elaydi demolished the seven-year CIF state meet record of 52.74 previously held by Ben Dillard. Just a week earlier, Elaydi clocked a career best 52.01 at the Central Coast Section championship; here he bested that in 51.85, and was the only swimmer in the event’s final to break the 53-second barrier. That time also makes him the 2nd-fastest 16-year-old ever in the event, only behind Michael Andrew‘s NAG record of 51.75.
