ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brook-Lea Country Club celebrated its centennial anniversary on Saturday.
The 100-year celebration kicked off with a Governor’s Ball, which has been a Brook-Lea tradition. A man played piano as guests took their drinks and chatted with each other.
Photographs showed people who attended the club throughout its history. The club historian spoke about how Brook-Lea started.
“We were formed when the University of Rochester bought Oak Hill on the Genesee. And a number of members, who were also a member at Oak Hill and other people from the 19th Ward, decided to create a club in rural Gates, New York, where they found could have horses and shooting and a lot of other country activities,” Ben Gibson, club historian.
This is the first of a series of events being held throughout the summer and into next spring.
