ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The intersection of Genesee Park Boulevard and Pioneer Street in Rochester got a makeover on Saturday afternoon.

Reconnect Rochester and a team of community partners gathered neighbors from the 19th Ward to transform the intersection. It was painted multiple colors with a paint roller with a theme of all four seasons.
Some of the local kids got in on the fun too. Others made designs on the crosswalk using a stencil.
The project manager at Reconnect Rochester said it’s about making safer intersections.
“We’ve heard from residents who live around here is that it’s a very dangerous intersection. Folks are seeing crashes here, regularly. And so, while we, you can see that we just set up some temporary street safety equipment, and we’re also pairing that with street art. And what that does, is it creates a new narrative at a place that was a pain point for many residents. Now, they can come here, and stop, and have a reason to enjoy this space,” said Lourdes Sharp, Reconnect Project manager.
Josie McClary, a 19th Ward resident, said the street art gave people in the community a chance to contribute to safe streets.
