Boston native Imara Rice has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Delaware beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic career at the University of Delaware! I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me endlessly throughout this process. I would also like to thank all of the coaches at Commonwealth for pushing me every single day to be the best possible version of myself. A huge thank you to Coach Ross, Coach Pablo, and the rest of the UD coaches for giving me this amazing opportunity! GO BLUE HENS!
Rice swims year-round with Commonwealth Swimming, specializing primarily in breaststroke, middle-distance freestyle, and IM. She is coming off a strong 2025-26 short course season, dropping four and a half seconds in the 200 free, nearly three seconds in the 200 breast, a second and a half in the 100 free, almost a full second in the 100 breast, and just over half a second in each of the 50 free and 200 IM.
Rice’s top meet of the season came at the Four Corners Speedo Sectional Championships at the end of March, where she touched eighth in the 100 breast and 26th in the 200 breast, recording her current personal bests of 1:03.24 and 2:19.49. She also finished 27th in the 200 free (1:52.54 – PB), 39th in the 200 IM (2:08.38), 46th in the 50 free (24.52), and 51st in the 100 free (52.95).
Earlier in the season, Rice clocked best times of 24.27 in the 50 free at the NE NSSC Senior Championships, and 2:07.41 in the 200 IM at the NE CRIM 15-18 Championships.
