Authorities were investigating after two women were shot during a robbery in the West Loop early Saturday morning, police said.
The shooting was reported at around 12:50 a.m. in the 600 block of West Randolph Street near North Jefferson Street. According to police, two women were standing on the sidewalk when a man exited a white SUV and demanded their property.
The suspect stole a purse from one of the victims before firing multiple times and striking both women, police said. The suspect then got back in the vehicle and drove away.
A 21-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the knee and was hospitalized in good condition. A second victim, a 33-year-old woman, suffered a graze wound to the hip and was transported to an area hospital in fair condition.
The shooting remained under investigation by Area Three detectives on Saturday morning.
