2026 CIF-LA City Swimming and Diving Championships
May 8-9, 2026 East Los Angeles College — Los Angeles, CA SCY (25 Yards)Granada Hills Charter stayed on top of the CIF LA Swimming and Diving Championships for another season. The girls’ and boys’ teams both defended their titles from a year ago. They did so in a similarly dominant fashion too. Last year, the girls team won by 174 points and the boys by 159. This year, the girls’ margin of victory exploded to 232 points and the boys widened their gap to second-place Palisades by 237 points.
Girls’ Recap
The Granada girls won six events, including a sweep of the relays. Sahasi Mahat, Isabella San Jose, Meygen Flores, and Elaina Brier won the opening 200 medley relay with a 1:49.95, kicking the finals session off for the team on a high note.
Like last year, it was the middle legs of the medley relay—San Jose and Flores—who provided the individual event wins for Granada. San Jose, a junior, repeated as the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke LA City champion. San Jose swam 1:04.66 to win the 100 breaststroke, claiming her third straight LA City crown in the event—she remains undefeated at these championships in the event through her high school career. The 100 breaststroke was a 1-2 finish for the Granada girls as sophomore Abigail Sirchalermchal finished second in 1:07.40. San Jose’s other individual event win came in the 200 IM, which she won in 2:08.64.
The sophomore Flores won the 100 butterfly in 58.21, marking back-to-back 100 fly crowns for her. She was slower than she was at this meet last year, she won her freshman title in a lifetime best 57.75, but still touched over a second ahead of Venice junior Elise Kao. Flores and San Jose also contributed to Granada’s 400 freestyle relay win, as they, Isabelle Bautista, and Libby Wilson-Gardner swam 3:42.78.
For her part, Kao had picked up a win of her own earlier in the meet. She won the 200 freestyle by almost three seconds, swimming a lifetime best 1:54.98 for her second-straight title in the event.
Jordyn Hale reigned in the sprint freestyle events. After winning gold in the 50 freestyle and silver in the 100 freestyle last season, Hale upgraded to double gold this year. Her first win was the 50 freestyle, where she upended Granada’s growing event win streak with a 24.14. Though Granada did not win the event, they still flexed their depth with a 2-3-4 finish from Elaina Brier, Bautista, and Wilson-Garder.
After the break, Hale took the 100 freestyle win with a 53.06. She got the better of Brier again, who picked up another silver with her 54.24 effort.
San Pedro senior Anny Ambrosio repeated as the 500 freestyle champion with a 5:14.36, dropping over two seconds from her title-winning time last season. Another senior, Yaily Quezada, rounds out the individual event winners at the meet. She earned first in the 100 backstroke with a 1:01.40.

Ryan Zheng continued to be a driving force for Granada at these LA City Championships. Once again he factored on two winning relays and he completed the 200/500 freestyle double for the third-straight year.
He earned Granada’s first win of the meet in the 200 freestyle, swimming a lifetime best 1:41.75. The 200 freestyle was one of the Granada boys’ strongest events (surpassed only by the 100 breaststroke) as Kyle Lee (1:44.77) and Ryan Cha (1:46.71) helped Zheng make it a 1-2-3 finish in the event. Later, Zheng dominated in the 500 freestyle, swimming 4:40.42 to win by over 12 seconds.
The Granada boys swept the freestyle events on offer at the championships. While Zheng held it down in the mid-distance events, sophomore Kenneth Brier handled the sprints. Brier was the only swimmer to break 22 seconds in the 50 freestyle final, powering to the win in 21.54 and leading a 1-3-5-6 finish for the team. He was back on the blocks for the 100 freestyle and took the win in 48.53, touching ahead of his classmate Ethan Lin (48.84). Both of Brier’s winning times were personal bests; further, he nearly matched his 50 freestyle best leading off the 200 freestyle relay in 21.64. The team won that race in 1:28.24 and were the only squad to break 1:30.
The Granada boys’ 1-2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle began the team’s meet on a high note but it was not even their best event. That was the 100 breaststroke, the last individual event of the meet. There, the team pulled off a 1-2-3-4 finish led by junior Joel Shin’s 59.27 lifetime best. It was Shin’s first sub-1:00 swim; he’d scared the mark in prelims with a 1:00.17.
Ryan Cha, Lin, Lee, and Zheng capped off Granada’s dominant day with a 3:12.69 to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Granada was the story of the day, but the first win of the meet went to Palisades as Granada had their only falter of the day with a disqualification. William Ryan, Ethan Pan, Christopher Goodman, and Marco Sampaio won in 1:40.50, clearing the second-place Cleveland by over two seconds.
Reseda’s Volodymyr Balaban and East Valley’s Caleb Garcia also had strong performances at the meet. The sophomore Balaban won the 200 IM in a lifetime best 1:57.11. He logged another lifetime best in the 100 butterfly with a 51.84, passing Azael Aguilar to finish second. It was Garcia who won the 100 butterfly, leading from start to finish and touching in 51.54. After finishing third in the 100 butterfly, Aguilar won the 100 backstroke in 53.00 ahead of Garcia’s 53.36.
