Sorsby’s decision to seek treatment came in the wake of the discovery he placed thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app – actions that jeopardized his eligibility at Texas Tech. Sorsby has been publicly backed by Texas Tech in his recovery efforts, as the Red Raiders hope to retain his services for the 2026 season.
The NCAA is investigating Sorsby’s gambling, as the organization forbids athletes from betting on both college and pro sports. Sorsby reportedly bet on Indiana games while a true freshman with the Hoosiers in 2022 in addition to a host of other low-stakes wagers between $1 and $2.50. He transferred from Cincinnati to Texas Tech in part due to a substantial NIL deal reportedly worth close to $5 million.
If Sorsby is deemed ineligible by the NCAA, he could enter the NFL Supplemental Draft and join the professional ranks for the 2026 season. The deadline to apply for the supplemental draft is June 30.
