Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to attracting further Indian investments and boosting bilateral trade.

The minister’s remarks came during talks with Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting held on Friday 15/5/2026 in New Delhi.

Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s readiness to provide full support for Indian companies seeking to invest in the Egyptian market, underscoring Cairo’s keenness to deepen partnerships with major Indian firms across various sectors.

Badr Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s efforts to achieve industrial integration with India through sustainable production partnerships, pointing to Egypt’s strategic advantages, including its extensive network of free trade agreements with regional and international blocs.

Minister Badr Abdelatty noted that these agreements position Egypt as a gateway for Indian exports to Arab, African, European and Latin American markets, in addition to the country’s advanced infrastructure and competitive skilled labor force.

Abdelatty also reviewed the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the investment climate through greater transparency, institutional and legislative reforms, and measures aiming at removing obstacles facing investors and strengthening the role of the private sector to achieve development.

Badr Abdelatty added that Egypt’s recent economic and legislative reforms have enhanced the competitiveness and openness of the national economy, helping attract more foreign investments, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The foreign minister Badr Abdelatty further pointed to preparations underway for the eighth session of the Egyptian-Indian joint committee at the foreign ministers’ level, stressing the importance of convening the Egyptian-Indian Business Council and signing a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint chamber of commerce.

For his part, Goyal voiced India’s keenness to expand economic and trade cooperation with Egypt, promote joint investments and explore new avenues for bilateral collaboration.
