Two years after it was first confirmed that James Graham's hit play about Gareth Southgate, Dear England, would be coming to the screen as a four-part series, the release date for the project has now been confirmed.
In a bonus for fans, the first two episodes of the series, which charts Southgate's tenure as England manager, will arrive at once on BBC iPlayer, at 9pm on Sunday 24 May. The first episode will also air on BBC One at that time, with the second instalment airing on the channel the next day, Monday 25 May.
Episodes 3 and 4 will then follow the same pattern one week later, both dropping on iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday 31 May. BBC One will air episode 3 at 9pm that day and at the same time on Monday 1 June.

The synopsis for the series reads: "With the worst team track record for penalties in the world when he takes over as manager, Gareth knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt to take England back to the promised land. The country that gave the world football has delivered a painful pattern of loss. Why can’t the England team win at their own game?
"Dear England is a fictionalised account of the struggles and successes of the England men’s team, based on extensive research and interviews."
Alongside Fiennes, the series also stars Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who), Jason Watkins (The Game), John Hodgkinson (Small Axe), Daniel Ryan (The Hack) and Sam Spruell (The Gold).
Also in the cast are Adam Hugill (Sherwood), Josh Barrow (Hostage) and Lewis Shepherd, who reprise their stage roles, while newcomers to the project include Will Antenbring (Mr Loverman), Edem-Ita Duke (Mr Loverman), Francis Lovehall (A Thousand Blows), Abdul Sessay (Piglets), Jacob Greenway (The Dream Lands) and David Shields (Masters of the Air).
The cast is rounded out by Hamish Frew (Generation Z), Alfie Middlemiss (Waterloo Road), Riess Fennell (The Football Fantastics), Daniel Quincy Annoh (The Recruit), Bobby Schofield (Unforgivable), Sam Baker Jones (Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man), Dom Rayner and Xander Westcarr-Parsons.
Dear England will begin on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday 24 May 2026.
