Legendary actorHarrison Ford is known for his laid-back attitude surrounding his award-winning work, and it's no different when it comes to the start of his storied career.
In a rare interview, the Shrinking actor got candid about his acting, revealing the surprising way he first became connected to one of the biggest film franchises in history.
The 83-year-old opened up about his career during an appearance on the May 13 episode of the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, hosted by Ted Danson and Ford's friend, Woody Harrelson.
In the podcast, he explained that he had a "career in carpentry" during his early days as a struggling actor, and it was this job that would lead him to become one of the most famous movie stars.
"I was working at the time for this guy namedFrancis Ford Coppola,” said Ford. Except, it wasn't in one of the renowned director's films; it was on a carpentry project to install the entrance to his office. However, Ford did set some boundaries and only agreed to work on the office at nighttime, as he didn't want to “confuse people,” because he was also working on getting his big break as an actor.
At the same time as Ford was working on the installation, George Lucas was casting for Star Warsout of Coppola's office. Ford had previously worked with Lucas in a supporting role in the 1973 classic, American Graffiti.
"[Lucas] had let it be known to our agents that anybody that was in American Graffiti need not apply because he was looking for new faces, fresh faces, not the worn-out, old faces we had,” Harrison explained.

When he brought Richard Dreyfuss in for the first interview, Lucas asked Ford if he would read with the other actors, to which he agreed.
"And then they gave me the part,” Ford stated.
Harrelson asked when the Life Achievement Award winner got “the feeling” that they were actually interested in him for the iconic role of Han Solo. "About two months after I signed the contract," he said. "... I didn't think they were testing me. I thought I was doing them a favor."
He continued, "So, that's how lucky I am. That's the kind of luck I have." He joked, “But if I was really lucky, I'd be Chris Walken if I could."
