Recently, a Louisiana father, Walt, called into The Ramsey Show to ask Dr. John Delony if he was in the wrong for charging his adult daughter $300 a month in rent. While Walt thought he was doing the right thing, his daughter has recently started telling people he’s stealing from her.
Walt initially told Delony and co-host Rachel Cruz that his 23-year-old daughter had been allowed to live at home while attending school, but they never thought it would carry over into graduate school. They also charge her a third of the house's food budget.

Both Delony and Cruz admitted this is a tough situation, but ultimately, the parents were doing the right thing. The daughter is unwilling to move out of her parents’ home, but also doesn’t want to pay rent. She wants to bring over her fiancé, whom her parents dislike, but don’t want to hear their feedback on his very obvious red flags.
Delony told Walt that he clearly loves his daughter and is trying to teach her responsibility. He also explained to Walt that, as an adult, she has the right to date freely. On the other hand, Delony also asserted that her parents are her landlords and have the right to set the rules for their home.
