Few finales arrive carrying the weight that Good Omens Season 3 does. When the show premieres its feature-length conclusion on Prime Video on May 13, it will close out a story that, for a period stretching well over a year, looked like it might never reach an ending at all.
Good Omens, the fantasy comedy based on the beloved 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, built one of streaming's most devoted fanbases across its first two seasons. Michael Sheen and David Tennant, playing the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, became one of television's most celebrated pairings, and Season 2's cliffhanger ending in July 2023 left that fanbase desperate for resolution. What followed was not a routine wait between seasons.
In 2024, multiple women made allegations of sexual assault against Gaiman, who served as the show's creator and showrunner. Gaiman has denied any non-consensual conduct. Amazon paused production on Season 3 in September 2024. By October 2024, Gaiman had exited the production entirely, and the planned six-episode season was restructured: rather than cancel the show, Prime Video committed to completing it as a single 90-minute finale. Director Rachel Talalay says the planned six-episode story was reshaped into a tighter, stronger 90-minute finale, with co-writer Peter Atkins confirming the season was condensed from a full run into one extended special.

The people who stayed built something under difficult conditions. Talalay, a veteran of Doctor Who, took the scripts that writers Michael Marshall Smith and Peter Atkins had assembled, distilled from what was originally a six-episode arc, and shaped them into a finale that picks up directly from Season 2's gut-punch ending. Aziraphale and Crowley return to face their most personal adventure yet, with their millennia-long friendship fractured since Aziraphale accepted a return to Heaven, leaving Crowley behind. Now, as the newly appointed Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale is tasked with overseeing the Second Coming.
Executive producer Josh Cole, representing the production alongside Rob Wilkins of the Pratchett estate and BBC Studios, pushed the project across the finish line. 'I'm proud of everyone who worked hard on Season 3 in incredibly difficult circumstances. Knowing what Good Omens means to the fandom really drove us forward and the finale is very much for them,' Cole said.
Michael Sheen, who attended an early screening, offered fans a frank and characteristically warm preview. He said he both laughed and cried, acknowledged there would be things audiences would argue about, and added: 'Thank God for what it is. Brilliantly directed, beautiful performances, fantastic new looks, incredible work all around. And there's nightingales.'
Early reviews describe the finale as an imperfect but emotionally real conclusion, one that leans hard on what the show has always done best. Critics note that the compressed format shows (full arcs are collapsed into moments) but that Tennant and Sheen's chemistry remains the series' most reliable constant, delivering exactly the kind of bittersweet send-off the show's audience had been quietly fearing they might never receive.
For a fanbase that spent two years wondering whether Crowley and Aziraphale's story would simply go unfinished, that may be enough. The finale premieres May 13 on Prime Video.
