A 9-month-old baby, two police officers and a 26-year-old woman were hospitalized after a squad car and the woman’s car collided in Chicago on Tuesday morning.
Around 11:17 a.m., a 26-year-old woman driving a Volkswagen SUV eastbound on West 87th Street in Chicago’s West Chatham neighborhood with a 9-month-old baby in her vehicle when she was involved in a crash with a marked Chicago police squad car that was being driven northbound on South State Street, authorities said.
Video captured by an NBC Chicago photographer of the aftermath of the crash showed a Chicago police department vehicle with a crunched hood and the Volkswagen flipped over on a median at the intersection. Debris could be seen scattered around the vehicles, including what appeared to be a toy rocket.
Airbags were deployed in both vehicles, video showed.
When asked if the squad car had lights or sirens activated, whether citations were issued or if the crash was being investigated further, Chicago Police Department media representative said “there is no updated information.”
