Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Floridian Thomas Smith has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the U.S. Naval Academy following his high school graduation in 2027. Smith currently competes for the Bolles School Sharks, and he attends Ponte Vedra High School.

Smith described his commitment as a lifelong dream come true in an announcement:

I am honored and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to the United States Naval Academy! I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be to further my academic and athletic pursuits. Attending the Naval Academy has been a lifelong dream, and I wouldn’t be here without my parents and siblings, I am grateful unwavering support; my friends and teammates, who challenge me to be better; and all the coaches who have instilled discipline and a deep love for the sport in me. I deeply appreciate the work that Coach Alexis and the Bolles coaching staff, along with Coach Gus at Planet Swim, have put in to push make this goal a reality. I also want to thank Coach Bill, Coach Mark, and Coach Brown at Navy for their support throughout the process and for blessing me with this incredible opportunity. GO NAVY!! BEAT ARMY!! NMSD ‘31

In Smith, the Naval Academy gets a two-discipline threat. He ranks among Florida’s top age group butterfliers and freestylers. This is exemplified by his recent Florida Senior Champs title in the 200 fly (1:48.85) and his two podium finishes at the 2025 FHSAA 3A state championship: 3rd in the 100 fly (48.89) and 4th in the 200 free (1:42.21).

Beyond Florida, Smith has proven nationally competitive, competing at Summer Junior Nationals in three events the summer after his sophomore year. At the long course championships, he swam the 100 fly (56.02), 200 free (1:55.66), and 200 fly (2:07.69). He has also shone under the pressure of several other national-level meets, including Winter Juniors and Futures.

In Maryland, Navy will welcome Smith’s range across multiple distances and strokes. He will have no shortage of competitors on the military academy’s massive swim team, which sent five gentlemen to the 2026 NCAA Championships. The team had a dominant win at the school’s Patriot League Championships. Based on this year’s results, Smith’s best 200 fly would firmly qualify him for the B final, while his 500 is right on the brink of finals material.

Swimmers from all of the U.S. will join Smith in Navy’s Class of 2031, including Bolles teammate Camp Hartman. Others include Alex Jungbluth, Ryan Baldwin, Zachary Mcnabb, Alexander Ivascu, Cole Nelson, Tristan Furlow, and Parker Efird.
