Four of the Eagles will play college baseball. Justus Robinson signed with Gordon College, Mitchell Nieves with Genesee Community College and Eric Jones with Division II West Virginia Wesleyan, where he will play both baseball and football.

“I can’t even say thank you enough to East High School for what they gave me. They taught me how to be a grown man. Gratitude,” Jones said.

While Kyle Markham will become RCSD’s first Division I baseball player since 2016 when he attends Mount Saint Mary’s. “I think it’s really achievable. Just if you put your work in, do the hard things and try your best every day,” Markham said.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, four of East High’s top six seniors academically are part of this group. Carlos Gaston, who signed with RIT, ranks sixth in his class. Robinson sits in third, Nieves is the salutatorian and Markham is the valedictorian.

“I can’t think of any other sports program that I have ever known anywhere that has been able to have that accomplishment,” head coach Kyle Crandall said.

“Me and my friends compete with everything, so it kind of stunk that I got third,” Robinson said with a smile. “But it’s nice to kind of see those accomplishments and see the hard work pay off.”

“It means a lot. You know, all these people showing up for us being here. It’s a very beautiful moment,” Nieves said.

“It’s great. Honestly. Like, these are the boys I grew up with. Like, we’ve even played each other from 10U and now we’re seniors graduating. So the fact that we can just do this together is amazing,” Gaston said.

“To me, one of the more remarkable things that I have seen in my 25 years of coaching,” Crandall said. “These kids are the reason for that. And I’m just honored and blessed to be their coach.”

The East Eagles are 12-4 on the season.
