On Monday, May 11, the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star, 51, shared a TikTok montage showing four of her sextuplets—Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel—celebrating Mother’s Day and their 22nd birthdays at a restaurant alongside their mom. Hannah and Collin, who have lived with their dad Jon Gosselin for several years, were not in attendance.
But the journey to that celebration wasn't smooth. The video opens with daughter Leah pulling up in an SUV to pick up Kate before getting into a car accident that completely smashed the front of their vehicle.

Rolling With the Punches
"Unfortunately, the trip started out rough," Kate wrote over the footage. But she quickly pivoted to what mattered most: "Fortunately, Leah and I are uninjured. Her car did not [fare] so well…It's totaled. But as they say, the show must go on. We had a BIRTHDAY to celebrate! And lots of catching up to do!"
And they did. Despite the accident, Kate and her family gathered at a restaurant to celebrate with meals and cake. The photos show them laughing, raising glasses, and enjoying each other's company.

But apparently, the mishaps didn't stop at the accident. When they got home, Kate attempted to make a homemade cake—a tradition she's maintained for over 20 years—and it fell apart almost immediately. As she tried to spread chocolate frosting, the cake began crumbling.
"Yet another snafu," Kate wrote. "The same cake I've made for 20+ years didn't turn out……Not even Baker Leah could fix it!"
"We even made a second one," Kate added. "NOPE!"

In the end, all turned out well. The mom of eight shared a photo of herself lounging on the couch with her kids, captioning: "Finally we ended the weekend with a Mother's Day birthday bash combo with a 'CHUNK' of my kids."
The real highlight came in the form of a fill-in book titled "Just a Few Things I Love About You Mom" that her children gave her—which Kate called "the BEST gift my kids have ever given me."
